Heres a way to make a very simple userbar in a few easy steps,
.First start by opening a new project with the size dimensions 350 by 19.
.Select the gradient tool, and select your preferred color, then set the gradient at FG to BG and lower the opacity.
.Drag the gradient across the image.
.Then you need to make some scanlines, this is optional but many userbars look better with them. To make scanlines open a new project with a size of 6 by 6 and click fill with transparency. Then take your pencil tool and fill the square with the following pattern. Then click file/save and save it as Scanlines.pat. Then find the saved file and upload it to GIMP's pattern folder which can be found through these folders.C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\patterns. It should now be located under the patterns. Now you can add it to your userbar simply by clicking on the Bucket Tool-Pattern Fill and then clicking on your userbar.
.Select your image and paste it on the userbar. Resize if necessary.
.Finally add Visitor TT1 BRK font to your userbar.
